About · Nashville certified postpartum doula

I remember the anxiety.
Let me help you through it.

Hi, I’m Julie Schutt — your certified postpartum doula in Nashville, and a mom who knows what it’s like to need help and not know where to find it.

Why I became a doula

From 3am anxiety to my life's calling.

Julie Schutt certified postpartum doula in Nashville Tennessee

A few months after my son was born in 2019, I found myself wide awake drowning in postpartum anxiety, convinced I was failing at motherhood — while spending 50+ hours a week at a corporate job, away from the baby I desperately wanted to be with.

After researching doula work, I found my answer in postpartum support. Severe pneumonia forced my timeline: I left my office job to heal, completed my ProDoula certification, and took my first client. That first year tested me — my mom’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, my father’s sudden death, a miscarriage, my son’s autism diagnosis. Supporting other families through their hardest days became my anchor.

Five years later, I’ve supported over 50 Nashville families. I show up as my authentic self: a mom who’s been there, and who’s honored to walk alongside you.

My Approach to Postpartum Care

Support that meets you where you are.

Judgment-free support

Your house doesn’t need to be clean when I arrive. Your feeding choice is the right choice. Your parenting instincts are valid. I’m here to support your family, your way.

Education over dependency

I don’t want you to need me forever. I teach you to read your baby’s cues, troubleshoot challenges, and trust yourself — so you become the confident parent you already are inside.

The whole family matters

Postpartum care isn’t just about the baby. It’s your physical recovery, your mental health, your partner’s adjustment, and your older children’s transition. I support all of you.

Evidence-based, not dogmatic

I stay current with research on infant care, feeding, and postpartum wellness — but real life doesn’t always match the textbook. We’ll find what works for your situation.

You're not failing, you're human

Every parent feels overwhelmed. Every parent doubts themselves. You’re not broken — you’re navigating the hardest job in the world without enough support. That’s what I’m here to change.

When I'm not with families

A Nashville native, through and through.

I’m a wife, mother, daughter, and advocate. I live in Donelson with my husband, son, and our cat. You’ll usually find me at hot yoga, exploring the trails at one of Tennessee’s amazing state parks, reading with a cup of hot tea, jamming out to vinyl records, or banging away on my drum kit.

"My husband and I don’t have family nearby, and Julie was a pillar of support when we brought our little guy home from the hospital. We felt 100% comfortable leaving our son in Julie’s care and turning to her for guidance on feeding, bathing, and all the things us new parents need to know!"
